1. Find the pixel size
Use the width and height of the image or layout in px. If you only have the file, drop it into the converter and the pixel size is read in your browser.
Pixel and inch conversion
Convert pixels to inches at any PPI. Type a width and height in px, or drop an image to read its pixel size, then see the size in inches, centimeters, and millimeters. Nothing is uploaded.
Pixels in
Height is optional. Choose the PPI that matches where the image will be used.
Common PPI values
Have an image instead of numbers?
Formula: inches = pixels ÷ PPI.
Inches out
The physical size these pixels cover at the selected PPI.
One division. The only decision is which PPI to divide by.
Use the width and height of the image or layout in px. If you only have the file, drop it into the converter and the pixel size is read in your browser.
Use 96 for web and CSS sizes, 300 for a typical print requirement, or the value your printer, publisher, or template specifies.
Inches = pixels ÷ PPI. For example, 1200 px ÷ 300 PPI = 4 in, and 1200 px ÷ 96 PPI = 12.5 in.
Common px values converted to inches at four densities. Values are rounded to two decimals.
| Pixels | At 72 PPI | At 96 PPI | At 150 PPI | At 300 PPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 px | 1.39 in | 1.04 in | 0.67 in | 0.33 in |
| 300 px | 4.17 in | 3.12 in | 2 in | 1 in |
| 600 px | 8.33 in | 6.25 in | 4 in | 2 in |
| 1,000 px | 13.89 in | 10.42 in | 6.67 in | 3.33 in |

|---|---|---|
| 600 × 600 px | 6.25 × 6.25 in | 2 × 2 in |
| 1024 × 1024 px | 10.67 × 10.67 in | 3.41 × 3.41 in |

A pixel has no fixed physical size. PPI is the bridge between the two.
An image that is 3000 px wide is always 3000 px wide. How many inches that covers depends on how tightly the pixels are packed: 3000 px at 300 PPI is 10 inches, and the same 3000 px at 96 PPI is 31.25 inches.
That is why two pixel-to-inch converters can show different answers for the same number. Most use 96 PPI by default because CSS defines 1 inch as 96 px. Print work usually uses 300 PPI. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions.
Some image files carry their own density value. You can read it with the Image DPI Checker, and change it without touching the pixels with Convert Image to 300 DPI.
Short answers to the questions behind the conversion.
Divide the number of pixels by the PPI (pixels per inch). At 96 PPI, 1920 pixels is 20 inches. At 300 PPI, the same 1920 pixels is 6.4 inches.
It depends on the PPI. At 96 PPI, which is the CSS reference density, 1 px is 1/96 inch, or about 0.0104 inches. At 300 PPI, 1 px is about 0.0033 inches.
At 96 PPI, 1920 x 1080 pixels is 20 x 11.25 inches. At 300 PPI it is 6.4 x 3.6 inches. The pixel count stays the same; only the density changes the physical size.
Use 96 PPI for web and CSS layout sizes, 72 PPI when an older design tool or template asks for it, and 300 PPI when a printer or publisher asks for a print-ready size. If a provider gives a number, use theirs.
Open Image > Image Size, clear the Resample option, and switch the width and height units to Inches. Photoshop then shows the physical size for the Resolution value in the dialog without changing the pixels.
Go the other way, or check what density a file carries.
The calculation runs in your browser. If you choose an image, only its pixel width and height are read on your device; the file is never sent anywhere.
